The Mount Vernon City School District will hold a meet and greet for special education families on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Rebecca Turner Academy. Attend to meet the Office of Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) and special education staff. Families will also receive an overview of PPS and the Special Education Department.

At approximately 12:15 p.m. today – Wednesday, September 11, 2024 – a car struck the side of Mount Vernon Honor Academy, causing damage to a wall. The car hit in the area of the building where drop-off and dismissal are conducted, but no students were in the immediate area when the accident occurred. There were no injuries to staff members or students.
A moment of remembrance was held across the Mount Vernon City School District early this morning, as today marks 23 years since the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Classrooms throughout the District spent time during the day to remember the lives lost and the heroic efforts of first responders.

Crowds of cheering students and fans lined the streets and schools of Mount Vernon on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, as the city and school district celebrated Rai Benjamin. The three-time Olympic gold medalist and native of the city was honored with a motorcade, Mount Vernon High School Hall of Fame dedication and ceremony at Memorial Field.
National Arts in Education Week, which is Monday September 9, 2024, through Friday September 13, is a nationwide celebration of the transformative power of the arts in education. Passed by Congress in 2010, this week is designated to highlight the benefits of and need for the arts in education so that elected officials and educational decision-makers nationwide can find ways to support equitable arts access for students of all backgrounds. During this week, Americans for the Arts will amplify the value of the arts in education through a series of activities.
