At The Mount Vernon Honor Academy, kindergartners have been learning valuable communication skills by practicing working with one another, sharing toys and supplies, and building connections with other students that are both fun and respectful. Hugs and toys are going to be exchanged with ease for these young students thanks to their amazing teachers!
At Edward Williams School, the middle schoolers are getting serious and working on their ELA and problem-solving skills. Here they are photographed showing off their Mount Vernon pride in their impeccable writing work.
During the first monthly State of the District Address on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, Mount Vernon City School District employees were encouraged to submit their questions about the school building reconfiguration via email. On Tuesday, March 18, employees received their responses from Acting Superintendent Dr. K Veronica Smith.

During the Leadership Profile Report at the Mount Vernon Board of Education meeting last month, the superintendent search survey highlighted the Mount Vernon City School District's technology integration in classrooms as a key strength. Data collected from 810 individuals, focus groups, and interviews revealed that three out of five strengths were linked to the Technology Department.
On Thursday, March 13, Benjamin Turner Academy hosted an incredible Family Fun Health Night, sponsored by the Mount Vernon City School District’s Physical Education and Health Department. It was a fantastic evening where District families came together to learn, engage and have fun.

These schools have demonstrated significant progress through their meticulous iReady implementation plan.
The Mount Vernon City School District’s Career and Technical Education Automotive Program has secured two articulation agreements, where students can transfer credits to a post-secondary institution, in the past four weeks. Students will now be able to earn college credits for Lincoln Technical Institute and Rockland Community College through the program.

Dr. Smith gave updates about the upcoming building reconfiguration, how it affects employees, and where the District stands in the process of closing schools.
Jhaelyn Jacobs is a senior at Denzel Washington School of the Arts who shows amazing character and dedication to her academics and school community every day. During her time at DWSA, she has chartered two clubs, earned outstanding grades, and run a business selling crocheted items.
