Principal's message August 2022

Dear Graham Families,

Dr. Natasha Hunter - McGregor

Welcome back to our new and returning Graham Families for the 2022-2023 academic school year (SY)! I hope that you are enjoying this most precious time with family, friends, and most importantly your children. The Graham community are excited to extend warm greetings! We look forward to your presence, enthusiasm, and big smile on the first day of school Wednesday, September 7, 2022. Half Day for Prek and Kindergarten. Full Day for Grades 1-8.

During my welcome back letter to staff, I reminded them that we have an opportunity to serve and provide a high-quality educational experience to the students and families within the Graham community once again. I shared that we have an opportunity to reset and recommit to our purpose. I emphasized that our families are so deserving, and their children require our absolute best daily!
We are striving to provide a safe, welcoming environment that addresses your child’s academic and social-emotional needs. Students must be provided with a safe space to dream and set goals. We must provide hope and direction, as well as hold them accountable. We must hold ourselves accountable knowing that each Graham Star can achieve grade level standards and demonstrate 21st century skills.

We need your support! We cannot do it alone!

As we prepare for the return of your loved ones, please know that your partnership with us will be of utmost importance. Relationships are built upon mutual respect, trust, and professionalism! We look forward to positive experiences with you and know that areas of growth only make us better.

For communication purposes, families are highly encouraged to complete all required parent forms, including updated contact information; check the school district’s website and other platforms (i.e., schoology, seesaw...); check student’s bookbag for notices/permission slips, attend meetings, check for mailings, and listen for robo call updates.

Even though each family will receive a Graham Family handbook, please refer to the bulleted points below:

  • Students are to arrive on time and come to school daily! Parents shall provide a note when students are absent and/or late.
  • Line up on 9/7, 9/8, 9/9 and 9/12/22 will take place in designated areas on the yard weather permitting (Refer to sketch). If it is raining, please follow the inclement weather schedule for these days. (Elementary line up 8:20am for 8:30am pick up. Middle line up 7:55am for 8:05am pick up). Teachers will remain an additional 10 minutes to greet families.
  • From 9/13/22 throughout the rest of the school year, please follow the attached line up and dismissal schedule.
  • All students are to always remain with a supervising adult and follow the Code of Conduct.
  • Students are highly encouraged to wear uniforms. Pants without belts, slippers, cut jeans and short skirts/shorts are not appropriate school wear.
  • Students are not allowed to carry phones, have cell phones on and/or use cell phones in the classrooms, hallways, bathrooms, school yard, cafeteria, or any other public area. Students may always be sent to the office and/or guidance office in case of an emergency.
  • Students must complete homework and classwork daily. Students are expected to complete their vacation packets and summer reading. Please return completed packets on the first day of school.
  • Uber Eats, Door Dash or any other delivery service may not be used during the school day.
  • This promotes inequity and poses a safety concern.
  • Students are expected to Be Responsible, Be Respectful and Ready to Learn!

Please send an email to nhunter-mcgregor@mtvernoncsd.org with any ideas, questions and/or
concerns. Please email if you are willing to volunteer. Wishing you and your family an enjoyable rest
of the summer!

Respectfully,

Dr. N. Hunter-McGregor, Principal
